Gertrude McGilliguddy
Band geek ready to hide bodies in the forest to make valedictorian.

GENERAL

FULL NAME: Gertrude Judith McGilliguddy
NICKNAMES: Trudy is the most common, though everyone in her family calls her Trudy Judy and it has spread to some of her school friends.
AGE/DOB: 18, October 10
YEAR: Senior
BLOOD STATUS: Halfblood.
GENDER/PRONOUNS: Female, she/her
SEXUALITY: Sapiosexual, if anything.

HOMETOWN: Haystack, CA, a small wizarding town right next to Petaluma, CA.

PHYSICAL

APPEARANCE:
There's no such thing as overdressed or overeducated.

No matter what she's wearing, Trudy needs to look put together. She may be a little strange, but that doesn't mean she's a slob. She can't find her glasses when they're on top of her head, but her shirt is tucked in neatly and her shoes are symmetrically tied. She can't stand if the part in her hair isn't straight. Her glasses cannot be smudged.

Her clothing suggests librarian, or feminine academic. Thick rimmed glasses, pleated skirts, collared shirts, cardigan sweaters, collar clips. It's something of an eccentric librarian look, though, with unique patterns and prints. Like Ms. Frizzle if she watched a concerning number of true crime documentaries and was into taxidermy as a hobby. When it comes down to it, though, she'll always favor practicality over aesthetic. In the laboratory, one must have closed toed shoes, safety glasses, and hair pulled up!

HEIGHT: 5'1"
BUILD: Soft and petite

INSPO: Pinboards

PERSONALITY

Learning is a high priority for Trudy. In part, she wants to be better and smarter than her peers. On the other hand, she is genuinely intelligent and curious. She wants to know how everything around her works. She’s open minded to outlandish theories, but she’s a skeptic by default. Nargles probably aren’t real, but she welcomes you to convince her otherwise. The more esoteric and complicated the subject matter, the more she enjoys it.

She is quite talkative, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she’s friendly. She has very little patience for small talk and tends towards blunt honesty. It’s not that she’s cruel, she just doesn’t care what you had for lunch and she isn’t going to beat around the bush about it. On the other hand, if you want to talk to her about something she’s interested in, she is glad to talk at length. Trudy is willing to entertain any unlikely theory, dubious hypothesis, or doubtful theorem. She will discuss the minutiae at length, examine every possibility for hours. She loves to debate, to passionately argue, but she hates polite chit chat.

Trudy tends to be intensely competitive, but only in specific areas that she values, which also tend to be the same areas where she excels. It’s a bit of a chicken and the egg situation to figure out whether she only values what she’s personally talented at, or whether she excels where she places the greatest amount of focus, but the fact remains that in these specific areas, she wants to be the best. Better yet, she wants to seem effortlessly successful. Failing in these particular areas will leave her moody and angry. Anything you can do, Trudy can do better, and if she can't, she's going to take her toys and go home. Failing too often may relocate that activity into the Irrelevant category. She has abandoned numerous interests and hobbies for exactly this reason.

Nothing ever quite lives up to the grand ideas and ideals that Trudy has. She has big plans, but the real day to day world often happens on a much smaller scale and hypotheses don’t always prove true. She is a serial starter-of-projects, but often abandons them. Maybe something else strikes her as much grander, or maybe she just convinces herself that the end product will never live up to the way it appeared in her mind, but either way the project is going into another box she’ll stack up in her room.

Generally speaking, Trudy comes off as unflappable. You’ll never catch her raising her voice or shedding a single tear. Emotionality isn’t logical. It doesn’t solve any problems. She is strong and independent and unaffected, thank you very much. Just beneath the surface of those calm waters, however, she is teaming with anxieties and irritations. Her brain is a run on sentence of bad what-ifs.

“Organized chaos” is the best way to describe how Trudy lives and arranges her life. On the surface, she can’t stand clutter. Books need to be stacked neatly, and in an accessible order. She keeps a detailed planner, and takes meticulous notes. On the other hand, she has a hard time getting rid of things. Those planners? She keeps them forever, even after the year is over, in case she needs to reference them. If you look at her space in the room, you might call her a neat freak, but if you open her closet, you might be crushed in an avalanche. But she can tell you the exact day and hour she had her dental cleaning in 2017.

FUN FACTS:
• She wears high heels often because they sound Powerful. Also, because she is otherwise short.
• Trudy is into taxidermy as a hobby. She likes to make whimsical scenes, but prefers to keep the animals anatomically correct. No winged squirrels here (unless the wings are naturally occurring!).
• She can't fold a fitted sheet to save her life and is halfway convinced that it isn't possible.
• Likes bugs, snakes, bats, and anything else that's supposed to be creepy crawly. She also thinks predatory animals are the cutest.
• She plays several musical instruments and dabbles in others, but only for fun.
• Speaking of which, did you know the glass armonica is rumored to drive people mad?

SKILLS

LANGUAGES: English, fluently.
HOBBIES: playing music, sewing, puzzles, board games, taxidermy, reading, learning
SKILLS:
MUSIC: Trudy is an accomplished glass armonica player. She is also skilled with the trumpet, which is what she plays in both concert and marching band. She does well with other valved brass instruments, naturally. She's competent at the piano, but nothing special
SEWING: Though her favorite thing to make is stuffed animals, she can use a pattern and does make her own clothes from time to time.
TAXIDERMY: Trudy has been into this for a few years. She's pretty good at it. Or at least, her projects tend to be the the intentional kind of creepy, rather than the lopsided, unintentional kind.
ACADEMICS: School is a skill, and Trudy has mastered it. She loves to learn, of course, but she has also figured out the numbers game of min-maxing grades.

HISTORY

FAMILY:
Annie Sweetapple, MOTHER. Works in sales at the Sweetapple Orchard.
Harold McGilliguddy, FATHER. Third grade teacher at a local wizarding day school.
Eleanor McGilliguddy, SISTER. Professional Quodpot Player.
Eugene McGilliguddy, BROTHER. Model and Aspiring Photographer
Pax Sweetapple, COUSIN. Junior Mothgarden
Elizabeth McGilliguddy, GREAT(+) GRANDMOTHER. Former MACUSA President, Ghost. Haunts a glass armonica that has been in the family since her death.

BACKGROUND:
Annie and Harold are the type of parents that are always ready with a word of praise about how you did your best, no matter what. No matter what their children tried, they were supportive and encouraging. They wanted Ellie, Gene, and Trudy to try everything that caught their fancy, and give it their all, no matter how things turned out. And frankly? Trudy has always hated it. As soon as she started school, she was praised for being such a smart girl. She learned to read quickly, and devoured books with a voracious appetite. She also took to math with ease. None of these feats seemed to impress her parents anymore than anything either of her less academically inclined siblings had done. It isn't necessarily that she wanted to be better than her brother and sister, she just wanted to be acknowledged when she excelled.

When Trudy was ten, her grandfather passed down an important family heirloom: a glass armonica that had been owned by her Great (Great, Great…) Grandmother Elizabeth McGilliguddy, who had been MACUSA President during the muggle American Revolution. More importantly, the instrument was haunted by Elizabeth McGilliguddy. While Trudy's grandfather may have just been trying to get rid of the overbearing woman, Trudy got along with her splendidly. While she could be stern and exacting, she was also quick to praise Trudy's intelligence and her accomplishments. Her real accomplishments. They didn't hand out participation trophies in the 18th century. Learning the glass armonica under a ghost's tutelage may have initially been a side effect of her relationship with Grandma Liz, but it ignited in her a passion for music. The glass armonica wasn't exactly transportable, being made of a series of glass bowls, so she took up the trumpet in the school band.

Though, let it never be said that the sciences and the arts have to be at odds. Trudy never had any weak subjects in school (unless you counted P.E. or Flying), but she excelled at math and science. She was the type of student who would read ahead out of curiosity, who would finish her work early and ask for more because she was interested in the subject matter. Still, throughout elementary and middle school, teachers said 'aren't you Gene's little sister?' or accidentally called her Ellie instead of her own name. High school was a chance to get out from under her siblings' shadows. Rather than attend Bottleby, like they had, she decided to fling herself all the way across the country, to forge her own path.

MISCELLANEOUS

WAND: 9.75", Apple, Snallygaster heartstring. Picture.
FAMILIAR: Cat named Minerva
CAREER GOALS: Any time you ask her this, she has an enthusiastic answer. It just changes every time you ask her.

PART-TIME JOB: N/A
CLASSES:
Trudy excels academically. Even in her weakest subjects, she still maintains at least A's, because an A- would be shameful. In the classes she likes best, that she's most interested in, is where she truly shines, though. Do they give out A++'s? Can they?

CHARMS: Charms is Trudy's least favorite core class. The wrote memorization is easy for her, but feelings are something she's loathe to rely on. Still, she does well.
POTIONS: Potions requires precision, which Trudy has in spades. She's also a little prone to experimentation, however, and has caused more than a few explosions. Luckily, she has a teacher who doesn't mind.
TRANSFIGURATIONS (H): Of the core classes, transfiguration is one of Trudy's ;longtime favorites.
ASTRONOMY (H): Who doesn't love SPACE FACTS? Combine that with math, and Trudy is always excited for astronomy.
HERMETICISM (H): She loves highly theoretical classes, and they love her back.
HOME MAG-EC: Trudy mostly took this class because she already likes to sew, and wanted to expand those skills.
MUSIC (H): You don't end up TA for no reason! Music is a long time love of Trudy's, but lest you think she's some sort of prodigy, know that she puts in a ridiculous amount of time practicing.
SYMBOLOGY: Trudy didn't know much about symbology before Peckenpaugh, but now it's one of her favorite classes. She's fascinated by its potential application, and where her interest goes, high achievement follows.
ARITHMANCY: Though she's not generally very fond of Divination, Arithmancy is one of her favorite classes. She likes the way it doesn't require touchy-feely gut feelings. She does well at the math aspect of it, and she likes using numbers to come to logical deductions.

EXTRA-CURRICULARS:
ADVENTURE CLUB
ARITHLETES
CONCERT BAND: Music TA. Plays trumpet, typically.
DEBATE
GAMING
STUDENT COUNCIL: Mothegarden Rep. Technically co-rep with Tony de Witt because she wasn't about to concede when the vote came up as a tie.
MARCHING BAND: Drum Major. Previously marched trumpet.

SORTING?: The whole sorting process was absolutely fascinating to Trudy. She enjoyed answering the questions at length, poking and prodding at each house's area to see if there was anything interesting to discover. Of course, her sorting ran long, and the prospect of actually choosing was a hugely difficult task. The Mothgarden door was illuminated, but Deeplurk was also particularly appealing to Trudy. It felt like the choice took ages, but ultimately, she went with the Sorting Path's suggestion
